Peabody-Metcalf

The Peabody-Metcalf property was acquired in 2005, and encompasses 49 acres, extending south from Sterling Road, close to the intersection of Merriam Road.

This property encompasses open woods with a gentle slope down to a large beaver pond (known as Jones Meadow). There are some great stone walls in this area, believed to have been constructed by Hessian soldiers during the revolutionary war.

Trails are available in three PLT properties in this area, which has been renamed the 'Russell Corner Trail Area.' There is a small parking lot off of Sterling Road which provides access to this property, and a trail runs through the property down to a beaver pond in the southwest corner. The loop splits off to the right at 0.3 miles through the PLT Poor property. A small trail runs from the edge of the Beaver Pond down to the dam and a stream which feeds into Babcock Brook. These trails are in use for hiking and horseback riding.

A larger loop can be made around several other PLT properties, from the center of town to Krashes Field and over to the Russell Corner Trails.
