Peabody Metcalf Poor Trails

Russell Corner Kiosk

    • Round trip on the Peabody-Metcalf Loop is about a mile

    • Trails run from the PLT sign and parking area off Sterling Road

    • Follow Blue Dots from parking area

    • Loop counter clockwise (best route) past the Poor memorial

    • Informal trail proceeds straight down near the water and over to the Dam area

    • When returning turn right to rejoin the main (blue dot) trail back to the parking area.

The Metcalf property was acquired in 2005, and encompasses 49 acres, extending south from Sterling Road, close to the intersection of Merriam Road. A dedication stone marks the entrance to the trail.

The adjacent Poor property was donated in 2010 by Eliza, Katherine, Hannah, Mary, and Bancroft Poor in memory of Katherine and Hustace (Stacey) Poor. A dedication stone can be found near the trail through this property.

There is a small parking lot off of Sterling Road which provides access to these properties, with a trail down to a beaver pond in the southwest corner. There is a side trail off to the right at 0.3 miles which loops through the PLT Poor property and past a dedication stone. Also, there are additional informal trails that head both south and east from the beaver dam area, and these are in use for hiking and horseback riding. The southerly trail heads over to the Whitaker Lane area.

The round trip length, if you take the loop through the Poor property, is about 1.4 miles. See Red trail on the map.
